Dancing Spelbots

One of the highlights of Innovation & Equity was Dr. Andrew Williams’ video demonstrations of dancing robots, programmed by members of his internationally-acclaimed Spelbots robotics team.  The team was honored Feb. 10 at halftime of the Atlanta Hawks game with the Black History Month Trailblazer Award.

Roy Clay Sr., the Silicon Valley Engineering Hall of Fame member who was recognized as a Pinnacle winner for his lifetime achievement, noted that he learned in the late 1950s when he was lead programmer at Lawrence Radiation Laboratorary that any motion can be converted into a mathematical formula.   He designed algorithms to simulate nuclear radiation for the earliest supercomputers from 1958 to 1961 at the laboratory.
